i seriously don't understand why all my friends get so mad when they're like "hey u want a bluesky invite code???" and i'm like "no, why are you on bluesky why would you willingly join ANOTHER crypto venture capitalist techbro platform that's gonna fail in several years just like twitter and skype and everything else" and they're like

"no need to be so mean!!! i just wanted to ask!!!! :(((("

no! literally! why the fuck are you on there! i thought this is what you hated about twitter, but i guess what you really hate more is that maybe not everyone you like is on cohost or mastodon. everyone's all about making the most concious decisions under capitalism possible until their friends are on the fancy new techbro platform and they're not.

we CAN have platforms that are ran with sustainability in mind, that won't have to heed to shareholders and add a ton of bloat just to stay relevant. but we can't do that when people think it's the less convenient option just because the venture capitalists are dangling FOMO in front of them as a way to get them hooked again.

it honestly frustrates me also because I feel as if the entire structure of Blusky is encouraging and enabling a trend of addicted users that are moving between a 'fix' of certain kinds of social media hooks that are designed to keep them engaged at all costs even if it doesn't benefit them in any way. I /get/ it, I do, it becomes a social dependence, a mental one, I feel the tug and have had the same sort of slow detachment from twitter where I've had to do harm reduction to pull myself from it, but the websites of its ilk are unhealthy and largely want control over what you imbibe in your social media diet. It's always done with advertising and montetization in mind, so their goals are always going to be contrary to what you want unless it was just a paid service. You are always the product, to them.

we know this, hell I'm sure a lot of them know this too, but this sort of reality speaks to an unpleasant truth and it's agonizing to have so many shy away from it in the face of better alternatives. I love wacky tweet content as much of the next person but sifting through drips of constant algoritmic spam to get to it just isn't doing anyone any favors. like you've said, we can choose other options, a little bit a month can keep a much more sustainable platform alive, and the content won't be controlled by techbros trying to make a quick buck off your life.

Yeah, in this particular case it was added to that user as a bug that could not be properly fixed.
But they absolutely did use "pornography" as an example of what is going to happen in the future with the accountwide labeling.
They already have the functionality happening as it was expected it would.

But hey mentioning this on there or ancilliary chat spaces is harshing the vibes and I should give the devs more grace, time, and trust lmao
