have just thought of a concept: a browser plugin that works exactly like sponsorblock, except people / creators submit a list of times when flashing images are on the screen, and the plugin automatically blanks the video
i mean, it's a very partial solution, for so many reasons. what i really fucking wish is just that youtube would enable multiple optional video and audio streams. it's completely absurd that they don't.
I also want multiple audio streams for Twitch. They already allow separate audio streams for Live and VoD for copyright reasons, but I wish they would let you stream multiple audio channels so the viewer can mix voice/music/game/whatever for themselves.
So many streamers I watch are really good content-wise, but the background music they play is stuff I'd rather turn off.
i would also love one that would lower the volume at a user submitted "loud" timestamp, because some people think its REALLY FUNNY to put a speaker clipping explosion sound in things

Sudden exaggerated shouting in an otherwise normal audio level narrated video is a hang-on from the caustic critic trend days that really needs to die a final death soon.
I bet this could even be done fairly decently algorithmically. I can't imagine it's that hard to like... check for rhythmic flashing and either attempt to smooth it our or just blank the video.
The weird thing is that you can (idk how though) upload more than one audio stream to youtube, but there's no way of actually accessing those other audio streams. The only way you can get them is by downloading the youtube video, and said downloader actually extracts the video from youtube and doesn't remove the other audio streams when converting it to a different file format. I've only had maybe one or two YT videos I downloaded have multiple audio streams before 2020, but I also can't remember if they actually had any audio in those streams. I wouldn't be surprised if most of those videos came from people uploading clips they ripped off of DVDs with 5.1 surround audio
