In the original Dragon’s Lair Princess Daphne is very little more than an extremely basic damsel in distress, locked in some magic bubble thing in need of rescuing whose only real characterisation is that of a ditzy blonde of the type Marilyn Monroe got sick of having to play.
In 2003 Crossgen Comics published Dragon’s Lair #1. There wasn’t, it seems, massive demand for a Dragon’s Lair comic in 2003 and it took three years for the rest of the four-part miniseries to be released, being published by Arcane Studio in 2006.
The comic recharacterises Daphne as a(n honestly still quite generic) spunky action girl. It opens with her and Dirk, already lovers, verbally sparring about their adventures. This isn’t a sequel, though, this is an adaptation of the original game, and she is immediately kidnapped by the dragon Singe.
So how do they square this with her characterisation in the game? Well obviously the bubble you free her from in the game was a magical enslavement prison that he was using to add her to his harem of bimbos. Of course.
Like what else is there to say. I am mostly making a second post to put in more images because I didn’t want to have to go to the effort of hosting them somewhere else and embedding them. They made the dragon from Dragon’s Lair into bimbofication in order to make a character less ditzy. What the fuck.
Because this is getting reblogged again I am just going to edit in this bit to say to anyone who is interested in reading the comic becaus of this post: the comic is mostly Dirk escaping various traps and monsters while making bad pop culture references so don’t expect much in the way of bimbos outside the pages I already posted here. There’s also some transphobia, because of course there is.
Dirk also gets ensorcelled too briefly, though, even if the comic has to go and do the thing where he snaps out of it because he realises that she’s secretly actually ugly. This comic is very het about things, including the lesbian captain of the guard character in it.
