I didn't think I'd have a final post in me, and I still don't tbh. I'm not gonna say Cohost has been a huge part of my life, because it hasn't - but that's why it's been a huge part of my life. Cohost helped me unplug from Twitter, Reddit, Youtube (mostly) -- sites that just... want to make you angry. Cohost was good. It was what you wanted to see, when you wanted to see it, and because you chose to see it. No algorithm, just pure word-of-mouth. If you saw it, it was because other people liked it - and they specifically wanted you to see it, whether that be rechosting or tagging. It put the rest of the social media hellscape in perspective. I don't give a shit who the main character of the day is. If I'm logging on, it's because I want to see people shitposting about Alan Wake or Guilty Gear.

It's a site that felt overwhelmingly human, because it was; two-hundred and twenty-seven thousand registered users isn't a small number of people by any means, but compared to Twitter's nine-digit user count it's minuscule. One grain of sand in the Sahara. One magic pixel on the health bar. But hell, that made it matter. You knew if you saw an account, there was a real person behind it. No bots, no engagement farming, no QRT flamebait; someone posted because they liked what they were posting. That's all that anyone's ever had to do.

There'll be another site like Cohost for sure - and someone please send me that site's URL by carrier pigeon when it launches, because I'm not going to Bluesky - but it's not gonna be the same without eggbug. I dunno. This was a good-ass website. You were the best, Cohost. I'm gonna miss you. I'm gonna look forward to whatever runs because you walked.

Im real bummed about cohost disappearing because this was The only place left I felt good posting on. Or visiting. Basically the only social media site that wasn't designed to anger me every time I looked at it, gone too soon.

If you wanna get a hold of me I'm now a discord creature only, I guess. @Monacht is the tag, if you can believe it.

https://discord.monacht.gay is my server, it's allegedly for my vtuber stuff but i havent been a vtuber in years, so. Various FF14 communities I lurk in too.

Idk. You can probably find me if you look, or just shoot me an ask or something.

TEN: We are here in remembrance of the Livermore Light Bulb. It was manufactured in the late 1890s in Shelby, Ohio, and installed in Livermore, California, in 1901. In 1976, it was briefly switched off when it was relocated to a fire station on East Avenue. In 2013, a mishap again cut its power supply, but it was successfully switched back on, and remained on until being crushed by a 500 football on July 3rd, 17776. It was 15,875 years old.

The Livermore Bulb probably did not have a soul. It was largely glass and filament through which electricity ran. It did not know us, and it did not know its own royalty.

It was the oldest functioning electric being in the known universe. It was our dearest ancestor. Year over year, century over century, it continued to astonish us: it was, after all, a light bulb that stayed on for more than 15,000 years without burning out or breaking. It was a miracle, and yet, it did not occur to us that it could die.

Perhaps in a more fearsome age, an age of illness and warfare and cosmic debris, we would not have room in our hearts to care for such a little bulb. But we are living in an age without loss. This is a sorrow we have forgotten how to experience.

The bulb lived, to us, and life deserves to be immortal. It will live on in our memories, where it will perhaps find more happiness than it ever did hanging from a ceiling.

We love you and we will miss you.
