Some of you have said very kind things about these round-ups and I really appreciate those words. This is a really nice exercise for me to go back and actually consider the things I see and enjoy more than just the 8 seconds it takes me to look at so I'm really glad others are getting something out of it.
It seems like these are less weekly than they are about every 10 days, which gives me a little more time to gather up enough art in the old likes history for me to make selections I can talk about.
Lonely world by Nymphicus_hcus
I've followed this artist for around 6 months and the thing that always strikes me, beyond the appealing stylized shapes and textures, is that they consistent manage to make really attractive works using only the colour orange. They tint lines or add extra light outlines to important shapes to keep readability but always work in this palette that ranges from grey shadows to dirty browns to firelight golden and gives their whole world this rusted out but lived in sort of look. It's very cool.

I'm always really impressed that people who make work this ornate are still able to keep shapes very readable. You can see this subtle shift in line weight that gives a drop shadow to big important shapes like the outline of the arm or the base of the skirt armour and it's really pulling a lot in terms of helping you parse these forms.

Bright yellow and dark teal is such a good colour combo used so effectively here. Look at the way Laura balances the concentration of yellow by diffusing it into these little spot highlights on the jellyfish and the angler light behind the sub. Very cute designs and a lot of attention to using this flat editorial style to adapt a bunch of real world undersea animals with stuff like a sea angel, oarfish, a goblin shark, a vampire squid etc, its a joy for me as somewhat of a nerd about marine life to go through.

There have been a real rash of twitter art trends mostly based around people posting that fucking Madagascar penguin demanding things. I'm way less opposed to people having excuses to repost their art and way more annoyed I have to see that fucking penguin every time. I'm sick of that dude. Anyway, I can at least be grateful for showing me new things like this great pitcher-plant-based lizard. I can't speak to the practicality of disguising yourself as a carnivorous plant, but pitcher plants do well enough to attract bugs so maybe the design works.

I used to be a real dragon-guy. They were one of the only things I ever drew, but like robots before them, I never felt adequate at it in comparison to the folks who were able to do stuff like this. I need to get back to it. The thing I really love the most in this piece is the pose they've gotten for the feathered wings. It's really well put together and dynamic for a seated pose.
As one final thing, this past week I also put out an illustration that I quite like, that I hope you'll show some love, here.
