Scornhorn is a [Polytheatrical Stageplay], a genre of video game that I made up, that doesn't exist, that no one will ever refer to it as, but is really cool to stick on the boxart because "it's like watching a collection of JRPG cutscenes play out" doesn't slide off the tongue so well... and neither does "ok i guess it's basically a visual novel but they wiggle and jump around just like fucking constantly".

It takes place in an enchanted woodland critter world where especially traumatizing events can scar your soul and burden you with a reality altering magic, at the cost that it will eventually shatter your soul and unravel you in death into an even greater curse, magnitudes more powerful than you were in life.

The primary setting is The Sewing Circle, a basically-penal-colony of a college for the aforementioned affected, who are considered far too dangerous to let roam freely. In order to redirect their powers and maintain agency over themselves, those who remain within the Circle's safety channel their curses into art and offer their services far and wide as highly sought after craftscritters of magical artifacts.

WHO is it about? Well, it's a dueling narratives kind of tale starring the ill-mannered and taciturn Dewdrop, who is succeeding his late mother as the Sewing Circle's figurehead and facing intense scrutiny all the while (as well as some dire acorn harvesting politics)... And in the opposite corner is Eclair, a former beloved saint of the Forest turned unholy fucking arsonist, who wants nothing more than to raze the world to ashes and transform her great legacy into a bonfire that basically fucks this whole thing up. And she doesn't even care who gets caught up in the blaze. Especially not her son. [Blinks and thinks about it] OHHHHH FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK THEYRE!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY'RE LIKE!!!!! OHHHH

They're joined by quite a cavalcade of characters, all with turbulent histories and a tumultuous future ahead of them as the Sewing Circle faces great pressures from both outside and within. Like come on guys! Don't you just wanna live out the rest of your days in a cursed glade where no life can grow, sculpting little dolls all day long until you just up and explode one day and unwittingly harm the people you love? Wait... No. yeah. No. Wait... Hold on no that kind of... Shit.

Okay well someone's gotta do something about this maybe. Dewdrop? Eclair? Either of you got any like... Ideas? Okay cool they said yes. Find out what happens in SCORNHORN, which, hopefully will be out early 2024! Sick.

P.S. As far as unwholesome content goes, look out!!!! for [looks at paper] literally everything. expect something that can get kind of fucked up sometimes! It's got a ton of heart and humor but it is seriously a very adult story about adult ass middle aged women experiencing horrible hardships and having unfulfilling sex lives and failed connections and lonely relationships and stuff. And sometimes heads come off. Yay!

WELL I'M SOLD!!

Really cool premise aside, I've been thinking "I bet someone could tell a good story with RPG cutscenes without gameplay" for years.
It's cool to see someone else thought so too, and with enough conviction to actually do it!
