hey wait a minute why'd i start this fun fact by writing "remember when". that doesn't make any sense. all of this happened before any of us were born. who the fuck would remember that. what's wrong with my brain nobody remembers that??? it's just a cool fact. i'm not even sure it's true. why did i say "remember when" what the hell brain

I reread That Hideous Strength recently. There's some bits that work for me still. The N.I.C.E. crew and Augustus Frost, in particular, are appallingly reminiscent of the contemporary "Dark Intellectual" set. On the other hand you get fed a huge dose of C. S. Lewis's sexual mores and advice on relationships 😬 And he appropriates "Numinor" from Tolkien (without permission I would assume) in a particularly clumsy and pointless way; no wonder Tolkien was incensed. And just what on Earth did he think he was doing with Merlin?! (aside from giving him a hunk of misogyny to disgorge) ~Chara
