this is the next thing I'm going to work on. it was a piece that someone donated to my teacher for students to use.
I don't know all that much about ceramics but it seemed sort of unusual to me. the colours other than the white and blue seemed like they were painted on above the white and blue layer, and matte, but still very hard like a glaze as opposed to a paint. the only thing I've heard about like this is historical Chinese ceramic techniques like doucai where they had to paint colours other than blue or white after glazing, then fire again at a lower temperature. which this is obviously not. Is there like a related contemporary mass-market technique?
after some searching online, I figured out that this was probably made by a studio called Yudachi gama / 夕立窯, from Mizunami, Gifu prefecture. They were founded in 1995 and this is their website: http://www.yudachigama.com/
I love their stuff! it's really really cute
I wonder how this particular cup ended up in canada? it's probably a pretty mundane answer.
