I've been keeping up with Mangasplaining Extra since I saw them at ALA last year, so I've been looking forward to Giga Town. The paperback edition has a really nice cover--matte and textured with raised glossy detailing. I picked up a copy at ALA in June, but I guess it's not technically out until September?
Giga Town is a visual guide to manga iconography told via 4-koma strips starring the critters from the Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga scrolls. It's a fun conceit! For anybody who reads a lot of manga, it's not going to contain anything particularly novel, but it's a nice reference for comic artists and the comics are charming. One drawback that might make it less useful for discussion:--the symbols are not given names!
Content warning: there is a strip with a character depicted with black skin darkened by mud after returning from a vacation. I am disappointed that this was not addressed in the English translation of the book.
It's beautiful, obviously, and has some lovely decorative paneling. Plus this is the cutest the battle kitties have ever been.
