all 16 of the DS's hardware-mixed sound channels could be switched into a PSG mode, which gives a fair bit more that you'd hear on your usual GBC or NES chiptune (unassisted by on-cart sound chips, at least).
too memory-constrained to send over streaming audio or even any substantial soundfont data? let it be known that despite being famous for sampling, Naganuma-san not only doesn't need samples to be funky, he doesn't even need patches
