With Natalie on a short medical leave, the crew here at AMCA has made a decision. We've revisited your requests for what non-mainline content we could cover and decided to cover the second place candidate for what became our KOTOR series.

That's right: It's THRAWN TIME baby! (That's his catchphrase, right?) So join us as we kick off our run through the Timothy Zahn trilogy that ushered in the old EU. First up: A depressed Luke, a galactic government that fits in a high school classroom, an Alien with a cat-lizard boa, and a new (well, old) take on the Clone Wars.

Love this pivot - although wishing Natalie the best. Reread them a few years ago - enjoying the 2011 Audiobook this time - that Ackbar impression is something!
Kinda gutted your not doing Young Jedi Adventures though - it's the closest thing we have to a 25 (or 50?) episode Jedi procedural we have. Admittedly, I have 6months old, but I'm already feeling more connected to these kids over the Acolyte Jedi. Even though the episodes are only 10 mins, the shear volumes of adventures they go on, really means something, even if they are all baby adventures 😂

Dunno maybe this pushes the "adult podcast watches a kids show" format too far... But mainlining it and then doing a one-off Patreon chat about it?

Great episode, can't wait for the rest!

It might be of interest that there's an annotated version released back in 2011 - Heir to the Empire 20th Anniversary Edition. Still available for Kindle on Amazon.

In the annotations Zahn goes into detailed explanations of his intentions, what information he was given about the world, what was guesswork and so on. There's a lot of stuff to dig through.

Oh la la! I read, re-read and carried that first book around so much as a kid/teenager that it nearly fell apart when I, many years later, gifted it to a Star Wars-obsessed sibling. Don't remember much of anything from the series nowadays, so these episodes are going to be a very fun journey.

regarding Lucas's response to this series, I need you to go to youtube.com and type in the search "George Lucas gets mad about Mara Jade." I know it sounds like something shitty, or a bummer, or a deepfake, I promise you it is not. It's essential viewing

Listening to the end of the episode about The Acolyte cancellation and I can't help but feel like we used to give shows so much runway when it came to finding their footing. Parks and Rec. is considered one of the best shows of it's era and it's first season is notoriously so bad that most people say to skip it entirely. But if you want to compare Scifi, the TNG era of Star Trek is notorious for each of it's shows taking 3 seasons to finally find their footing.

The $180 million makes more sense if this was supposed to be a movie like it was originally going to be. The $180 million figure would make more sense if this was also a 12-15 episode show as well, but 8 episodes that don't even meet the 1 hour time slot on traditional television makes it wild as well. If you had told me this was originally supposed to be 3-4 episode miniseries that was cut up I could believe the budget. I am still of the belief that this was a movie with an Extended Edition like Lord of the Rings that they cut up for "TV."
