How does one bring a doll to sleep, when its very inner workings refuse to quiet?
Some dolls require a good book to let themselves tick down.
Some dolls need to be cradled, and rocked to sleep.
Other dolls, one simply must needs be patient with, as their mechanisms are far too precise to be swayed by yours nor anyone's influence. These dolls often have quite exacting witches.
Still other dolls require more direct intervention -- a small injection of anesthetic, of opium, or perhaps something stronger still...
And there are some dolls that will never sleep at all. The dolls that never sleep are an exercise in dichotomy -- either the most dutiful, or the most lethargic. The most tightly wound, or the most ragged. The most steeped in sorrow, the most deeply connected with the joys of the night.
