with a group of friends. We get together every friday to watch (usually) schlocky, dumb movies. Ever since @kiwi recommended it, I knew Wild Zero (1999) had to go on the list. Tonight, I streamed it for them, and it was so worth it. (forgive my scuffed screenshots, the copy I have is emphatically not HD)
Wild Zero is the best movie we have seen in a long while. It's both a love letter to loud, dirty Rock 'n Roll, and secretly a story of trans acceptance. It is non-stop goofy set pieces, blown out rock music, bass boosted motorcycles, and magic fueled by the power of ROCK N ROLL. It's also a zombie movie, but one in which the zombies play at best a tertiary roll.
If you love low-budget movies that embrace corniness, or just want a film that will kick you in the ass, you owe it to yourself to watch Wild Zero. It is extremely entertaining, and never stops once its foot is on the gas. It was also edited by a space alien, but frankly, that just adds to the flavor.
ROCK N ROLL/10, highest recommendation.
You can find Wild Zero on the Internet Archive in watchable quality, or on Youtube in slightly worse quality. You can get it on DVD on Amazon, and maybe other places.
