i just caught up to current in the bocchi the rock manga and i gotta say, that manga is pretty mid! it's got some funny 4koma beats but the anime really punched up the pacing and made it more cohesive than when it gets awkwardly stuffed into the rigid 4koma structure. and obviously the whole "performing as a band" thing plays a lot better in a visual/audio medium.
the anime feels like the best way to experience it in my imo so im not gonna personally recommend people go back to the source material on that one. truly an incredible anime adaptation, made so much with so little
"the book is always better" is a lie and Bocchi is frankly a great example of that tbh. the original material is... yeah pretty mid is a good way to put it - it's not terribly bad, it's just somewhat generic shy/moe stuff and it doesn't have anywhere near the energy than the anime does. the 4koma format utterly destroys its pacing and thankfully someone figured out there was a great idea there crying to be let out into the world
