just had a Deep Memory surface out of the blue: toshibas in the late 90s / early 2000s had a parade of Funny Little Guys across the boot screen. if you hit enter, it would stop and let you pick one. that was the boot menu.

Oh hey I have a Toshiba laptop with this boot menu
It's also got a really fun feature where the only place you can modify BIOS settings is within Windows XP with the correct matching Toshiba crap software
I think more software should revolve around funny little guys and their funny little parades.
Now I'm going to have to dig out my trusty Toshiba from the mid-00's - that thing got me through college, rekindled my love affair with emulation, ran so many games that the onboard video had no business even trying to render, and kept on running even after the (easily removable) battery was completely spent.
One problem plagued nearly every laptop from them though - bad chargers with a ton of bespoke voltages (14,16.5,17,19V) at mid-to-high amps, all delivered via a hopefully-chonky-enough barrel jack. Every OEM charger I had died inside of 2 years, and 3rd-party junk was a mess of adapter tips and broken dreams.
Oh shit, my mom had a Toshiba laptop when I was little and I totally remember this boot screen.
Positively miffed that I can't seem to find anything on youtube of this silly little parade.
