what a nice way to both let your character artist flex, and to instantly build a rapport both between the characters and player, and between the characters themselves in-lore 😎 it's a very...human way to do UI design lol.
i love these but can't think of any other game that did this except Dragon's Crown (and the Jet Set Radio games if we're going 3D). anyone know of other examples?

From left to right we have Fatal Fury 1, 2, then 3. Fatal Fury Special came out between two and three, but that uses a standard grid of portraits, as does every subsequent game in the series.
