daily knowledge: throughout the 1990s, one of the most prolific computer manufacturers was packard bell. (you may remember them from the corner computer)
the company's slogan, which could be seen when you turned on pretty much any computer they made during their peak, was "america grew up listening to us. it still does."
this is because in its original form, packard bell was a radio manufacturer. the brand died out by the late 1970s but when the company that owned the trademark revived it to produce computers, they chose this slogan to give the brand a sense of nostalgia.
I always wanted a computer from Packard Bell because I couldn’t believe how boring everything else looked at the time. Packard Bell’s stuff was probably barely upgradable, but the look was very different even if not necessarily good and in fact bland in color.
