Before "Kiki Takuchi", there was another game I was working on called, "Grand Blue RPG Adventure".

A story about a Hero (Named Nite) from a typical Retro JRPG who is turned into a monster after a Dark Wizard (He kills) curses him. Once cursed though how ever, he discovers that world has changed; the typical 8-bit world transforms into a hand drawn world that looks nothing like anything he's ever seen or knew existed.. also all his armor and equipment is literally trash and gag items. He also can't do certain things he did before like bringing up menu's, eat herbs (literally just moss) to heal, or use certain moves and abilities to defend himself. One thing he can do however is talk to Monsters, something which has never been done before in the history of the world, as all Monsters speak an unintelligible language, though he needs to switch between wearing and not wearing armor to do so.

Over the course of the game though, he begins to gain new practical skills, such as "Writing a Journal, "Moving Diagonally", "Running", "Cooking", and basic decentness.

The real crux of the story comes when he discovers that "HERO's" are not exactly human and not exactly monsters; that they all live in a separate world from the rest of everyone and only seem to cause more problems where ever they go; only being useful when keeping monster secluded to Mountains and area's where Hero's can't typically go. From the Monster perspective though, it becomes more apparent that Hero's are more like villains and often show horrifying abilities and destructive capabilities, such as starting giant forest fires; freezing lands, poisonings area's and just generally killing.

You also discover that kings seem to have an edge in this whole thing as well and many other businesses sort of piggyback off the work hero's do. One major joke in the game is that Hero's can eat and use anything; a baker sells you a loaf of bread filled with sawdust, an alchemist sells you mop water and weeds, a blacksmith will sell you gag items and farming tools as "Mystical Weapons".

I also wanted there to be dating, but ehhh...

The end of the game would have you decide between "Staying a Monster" or "Turning back into a Hero" with both having their pro's and cons... THOUGH, IF YOU REALLY FRICKED UP AND FOUND "YELA" (your childhood friend and Party Member) YOU COULD GET A SUPER MESSED UP ENDING WHERE YOU BECOME THE NEW DARKLORD.

There would also be ANOTHER ending, if you got all three. It'd require you to know previous information about the world and solving puzzles way too early. That would be the REAL ending and would lead to a possible sequel.

BUT... the reason "Grand Blue RPG Adventure" never really took off is, I couldn't really figure out the mechanic between switching between "Hero" and "Monster" Mode. It just didn't feel good and was sort of tedious... ad then I just lost intrest.

I still want to revisit it one day but, well... not for a while.

I've been going through some writing material for Kiki Takuchi's world and setting; ultimately I want Magic in there because Kiki's skill revolve around that a bit and at the end of the day, "Magic can be real cool".

But one thing that always gets my goat is, "Healing Magic". Now, you might be thinking, "Healing magic is just Magic what's so troublesome about that?" and my answer is, "A ton".

Firstly, when I think about "Healing Magic" I think about DnD or those fantasy novels where a bottle full of red just stops you from being wounded; or that green little weirdo with touchy hands just makes all that bleeding stop.
Instantaneous with no repercussions.
Which is bullshit.

Like, alright the potion just makes my wounds close up? How does that work? Does it force my body to go into overclocked mode to heal? Where are all the Proteins, Cellulite, Calcium and Blood to fix this wound coming from? From that Potion? That's made from Wheat Grass, Dandelions, weird dust off a fairies ass, and water from mop bucket? BIG DOUBT.

So you say, "Well it's just MAGIC" and I say, "How does MAGIC make all the shit to repair your cells?" You think the little dingey freak in his mom's Cellar brewing Potions of "Turn Person into hot Werewolf" knows how his Magic Healing potion works with the bodies cells and chemicals to repair a wound or cure a broken femur? THE MAN PROBABLY DOSEN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THAT BONE IS. "Oh but, what if it's a Wizened Old Wizard and h-" Wizards are idiot savant's 9/10 times and care more for the "Magic" aspect rather than the "Physical" aspect. They probably joked around with weird hand gestures and Runes for a bit before they found the one that made "Magical energy" close the paper cut on their finger without thinking twice about it.

SO. Where am I getting with all this? I TELL YOU WHERE:

HEALING MAGIC CAUSES CANCER! I'M SAYING IT; THE WIZARDS AND DRUIDS CAN'T STOP ME!!!

I'm throwing this in the ring and you're already reading this far so you have no choice but to keep going.

You want that "MAGIC ARCANA VOODOO ENERGY" to fix that wound? Sure thing pal, but it's going to create a ton of deformed and mutated cells in the process and you're probably going to feel super winded after a while because your body had to shove EVERYTHING into fixing that spear wound you got from a Kobold's very gross spear.
Now, I'm willing to admit, one or two times with the healing magic probably won't lead to immediate results, but when you think about how often healing magic is used in fantasy settings and stories, it's like a tap that never stops.
For a comparison in DnD, imagine that when ever a player gets a Healing Spell done on them, they get an X-ray. You know, the kind of X-ray where the person doing the X-ray runs behind a shield. Suddenly, it seems kind of spooky right?

This is going on for a bit so to wrap this up...

Healing Magic in any Fantasy setting is often used way too often and carelessly, we never really hear stories about Magic Healers actually taking the time to stop and LOOK at what they're actually doing when using their Healing Magic.

Which I feel is a major loss in world development and a more grounded and down to earth look at Magic and it's applications. To go behind the shield of, "Because it's Magic" allows one to make all sorts of weird and fun rules and ideas for the fundamental aspects of their stories reality.

I get Magic is Magic but its always fun to know, "Why it Works so well".
