i genuinely don't know where (if anywhere) i'll go if cohost folds.
i still have a twitter account, but it's not on my phone, and don't go there very much. i just pull it up when Current Events are happening and i want to read people's thoughts. if things keep going the way they seem to be going, i'll probably set up a bluesky account for the same purpose at some point, but it'll still be a limited use thing.
i'm also on discord, but besides a few friend servers, it's a very instrumental platform for me. most of the servers i'm in aren't communities for me, they're places i go when i want a specific thing. like, i pull up the shift f1 discord when i'm watching a race to chat with people, or go to the waypoint discord if i want to chat with people i don't know irl about a game or something. they serve their purpose, but those purposes are limited.
i also follow a lot of sites in RSS, but like discord, that's very direct and instrumental. i already know i like their work, rss just makes following them more convenient.
cohost is where i go for novelty, to see interesting people Posting about things i would have never have thought to look into myself. i see that shit here every day, and it's why i really like and value this site. every algorithmic feed site in existence seems to want to do the exact opposite though - identify a few things you're interested in, and fire-hose Content for those things at you so you scroll and scroll forever and get shown a ton of ads.
idk maybe there are spaces in fedi that'd work for me, but those communities are so sharded and self-selected by interests that i feel like i'd run into a lot of the same problems, even without an algorithmic feed.
all the love in the world to @staff, and please support cohost plus if you can. I just doubled my subscription today.
I can't spend money I don't have (yet) but I'm spreading this to keep the lights on!
