I did use Notion in a team setting prepandemic but I assume it's grown since then, and I've never touched the other two.
What are your takes?

Notion is good if you want “batteries included” i.e a robust set of features, templates and collaborative stuff. However, it is a cloud thing. Obsidian is pretty barebones but appetizingly extensible and customizable, but without putting a lot of effort into it’s not much more than a markdown file organizer / editor. It kind of expects you have a specific system that you want to build on top of it, whereas Notion gives you systems that you can plug into your project and go.
Obsidian is kind of “nerd bait” in the same way that emacs is: you can make it do whatever you want but you’re liable to sink a non negligible amount of time making your obsidian feel and function “just right”. I think it’s possible to get function parity with Notion but you might have to build some of the features yourself. Don’t think they’re really trying to occupy the same space. Between them I would choose Obsidian for the tinkering potential, but if I had to get a specific thing done with other people I would pick Notion.
Thanks, I appreciate the detailed comparison!
I'm not really choosing between them so much as soliciting input on three popular systems that I haven't really used. Thanks again!
I live by Markdown these days so I'll check Obsidian out ✨
ClickUp is what we use at PlayEveryWare. It has documentation, forms, various sprint helping tools, work item tracking, custom statuses, etc. We've been very impressed by it at our time here, and we believe it is free to sign up.
Thanks, I appreciate hearing your thoughts and I'm glad that it's working well. I'll put it on my list to try out ✅
