we posted this on Twitter but

remember the Cuil search engine, and when it failed, how it pivoted over to "CPedia", an AI generated wikipedia? and got critically panned for sucking real bad?

and then now every goddamn webpage on the internet nowadays is a CPedia page?

Reminds me of how much I despise algorithmically generated 'answers' to google questions purely to generate clicks onto a site and the sweet ad revenue for them

Feel like I am barely able to google anything

ESPECIALLY when it is anything related to trying to find "What is similar to this game?" Since it is just pages on pages of algorithms just matching the game tags, and not the actual game feel that can't be figured out by bots

I've always wanted to see a TVTropes type site that lets editors categorise games by their features. It would be so handy to be able to search for, say, anything that had a cover system like XCOM and was played on a hex grid. Or any game with farming but without combat. I've skipped over so many games that were exactly what I wanted just because the tags/descriptions/screenshots couldn't get across that that was what they were.

Yes!

Or like my struggle that has caused me this strife is trying to find something similar to a mobile game I like to play.

The game is called Pewdiepie's Tuber Simulator and I'd really really would like to find something that doesn't have Pewdiepie slapped all over it.

The main thing I like is its whole decorating a little room diorama with stuff, and submitting it into room theme competitions. The pixel art looks nice, and placing around things is like really fun.

But when I try to google around to try and find something with similar features, all the algorithm made bullshit just gives me the parts of the game that I don't care about. Like the whole making videos to make money, which is more of a means to an end to have the money to purchase more furniture to decorate with so it gives that one Youtuber tycoon game thing, or it gives me like tycoons in general and nothing even remotely close to the actual feature from the game that I am looking for.

It's so frustrating

Ah - only just spotted this in my notifications so sorry for the super late reply, but have you tried Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp? I only dipped into it for a bit myself, but the room diorama competitions thing you describe sounds just like a feature of that, and it has nary a PewDiePie to be found.

this stabs me deep in my soul

once upon a time i had a job cleaning up awful "SEO-optimized" articles content drivel written by people who apparently didn't speak English and oftentimes didn't even seem to understand the subject matter

many of the "keywords" they were written for were just verbatim search queries, typos and all

suffice it to say i vastly prefer working retail

relatedly, the worst clickbait article i've ever been exposed to would have to be one claiming, with authority, that the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion would be called "Nextpack" and spending the entire thousand or so words following its breathless "HERE'S WHAT'S GOING TO BE IN THE NEXT FINAL FANTASY XIV EXPANSION, WHICH WILL OFFICIALLY BE TITLED 'NEXTPACK'" headline saying "we don't actually know what's going to be in Nextpack, which is going to be called Nextpack, but we can give you an exhaustive list of everything that's been in previous expansions!"

i want to find the person who wrote it and beat them over the head with one of those spinner signs with the title "ENDWALKER" printed on it

Isn't DVD video one of those formats with no set resolution, kinda like how SD NTSC television is technically 480i, but doesn't really have a true resolution due to the nature of broadcast when it was created?
