good god Skype sucked so bad. the interface was awful, the program was super bloated, the Linux and OSX versions were barely supported, the mobile version was unusable, the audio quality was super fucking crusty, it crashed all the time. I could go on. good riddance.

EDIT: y'know what else I really, really don't miss? fucking Steam Chat. while it was definitely more stable than Skype, it was still clunky as hell and often just Didn't Fucking Work for No Goddamn Reason.

i'm impressed that teamspeak simultaneously still exists, and gives you more tools to facilitate complex meetings with multiple breakout groups than Zoom does. you just uh, need to know they exist, and how to morph them into Meeting Contexts instead of Milsim Contexts

i will always love how skype was completely synonymous with video calls with a massive corporation behind it and then after like, a week or two of mass video call adoption forced by Circumstances it lost out to a total obscure nobody-has-heard-of-this up and comer. which was also kinda crap but at least it worked okayish
