Trite, contrived, mediocre, milquetoast, amateurish, infantile, cliche-and-gonorrhea-ridden paean to conformism, eye-fucked me, affront to humanity, war crime, should literally be tried for war crimes, resolutely shit, lacking in imagination, uninformed reimagining of, limp-wristed, premature, ill-informed attempt at, talentless fuckfest, recidivistic shitpeddler, pedantic, listless, savagely boring, just one repulsive laugh after another.

I'm not a fan of IRC as a Discord replacement, but rather as its own different thing. Matrix is a nonstarter for me because most people I know are not nearly techy enough to bother with it. I've been trying to get people to move to Signal to frustratingly little avail.

Does anyone have any experience with Jami? This looks pretty fucking sweet I won't lie. Is there something deeply wrong and shitty about it that's stopped it from seeing more widespread use?

when i tried it, it just did not work. didn't even get close to working and absolutely no room to try and debug it.

i used session for a while (a fork of signal) but i don't actually know if it's trustworthy, there's blockchain somewhere in it and probably other various issues. upside is that it has no account system or other devices required

revolt is the only proper alternative to discord as far as the text channel arrangement and whatnot goes. its definitely clearly still in development but not enough to stop me from using and loving it every day. obviously it just depends on your purposes. for fandom organization its great, but obviously keep forum stuff on forums. though it is centralized, thats mainly because matrix has proven that once you get beyond the simple text messaging like XMPP, federating / decentralizing the platform becomes extremely difficult to implement & utilize, as well as to understand for normal user. either way, its centralization isn't much of an issue in my opinion because it is foss and self-hostable. overall, i think revolt is the best if you (and more importantly your friends) like the server (guild) > category > channel structure that discord provides
