"i turned off the lock screen" cool so every time i start my computer i'll simply disable another windows feature because microsoft decided it needed to have ads or bing or copilot bolted onto it now. got it 👍

Try wine. You'd be fucking amazed what runs in there nowadays. I've been using linux daily for almost a decade now and I'm still fucking amazed at what runs without issue now.

And yeah it (wine) is not as easy as "just" running it in windows but neither is circumventing microsoft shoving more bullshit in every quarter so why not at least try? If it works that's one less person using windows and one fraction less money microsoft makes doing this bullshit. Every bit counts.

i mostly just skip it... they're small enough so i don't really pay attention to them. i like it when they give cool facts about whatever picture shows up on the lock screen though, it makes it worth it for me....

I think there is a class of system administrator that knows how to turn this kind of thing off at the network level and universities and the like have lucked in to keeping them around - for now

don't have a choice in this bitch of a world, all the software i work with doesn't have Linux versions, MacOS is prohibitively expensive and an entirely new ecosystem to me and I lack the computer prowess to do any of the difficult stuff that either lets me use MacOS on any other device or lets me get rid of the ads.

the very first thing i see when i wake up is ads pervading every square inch of my entire world. i ain't pretend i can opt out of what i can't opt out of. the evil machine won. if i could just go "nah, actually it didn't" then we wouldn't be so mad all the time

I highly encourage people to write a live boot USB and try wine. If the program is large enough it might require an install or at least a persistent USB but, I feel like learning linux is a much more useful skill than learning what registry BS to change in windows.

But some people absolutely refuse to touch any CLI and I think if nothing else one would need to launch the application installer with wine file.exe and if you're not even willing to do that then... yeah, sure, have fun with the ads.
