So I think buying a new laptop is a kinda bad idea in the same sense as buying a new car is bad; a slightly used one is WAY cheaper and does the same thing, you just don't get to pick out every detail. And someone might have farted in it.

But since I have things I'm supposed to be doing I'm instead reading some laptop reviews, and I know now why Intel put out that slide deck (since deleted) just trying to shit talk AMD as much as possible. They're 100% noncompetitive in laptops right now. Just straight up. The only selling point is USB4 and if you're reading this post you've seen other people's posts about how USB and TB are hot fucking messes, thus USB4 support over a normal USB3 USB-C port is a nothingburger.

Of course laptops are where the absolute most predatory marketing in computing exists right now. AMD's part numbers are intentionally misleading, Intel's have been for years but now you can just chalk them all up as trash so at least that's easier. You probably still have to watch out for the occasional 1366x768 screen if you end up in the wrong alley. User replaceable memory is a rarity now. Discrete GPU names mean absolutely nothing. Bad cooling can tank even good parts, you don't know how shitty any given laptop's BIOS/UEFI is, etc etc etc. It sucks.

But for this short period of time before AMD makes the Big Heel Turn by doing some dumb shit like requiring new AM5 motherboards for the next set of CPUs, finally matching Intel's pricing, or just otherwise going out and feeding bodies into the lithography machines to keep the wheels turning, I'll enjoy laughing at Intel stepping on rakes. Also don't buy an Intel laptop.
