I don't really have a problem with Arcane Dimensions, but it tends to attract a particular style of highly polished design that all-but ensures that you're never going to boot up an AD map and think "oh, this is the real freak shit. this is the shit for sickos. I am pressing my proverbial face against the proverbial glass and cackling, proverbially, at this shit."
the worlds in AD, by and large, feel like they were made by humans. humans who cared about things like aesthetics, scale, navigability, et cetera. they're great levels, don't get me wrong, but… they don't feel like Quake, to me. Arcane Dimensions tends towards a much more gothic aesthetic, whereas Quake leans further towards brutalist, hostile architecture. The former wants you to have a good time, the latter will only begrudgingly acknowledge your existence.
