Trite, contrived, mediocre, milquetoast, amateurish, infantile, cliche-and-gonorrhea-ridden paean to conformism, eye-fucked me, affront to humanity, war crime, should literally be tried for war crimes, resolutely shit, lacking in imagination, uninformed reimagining of, limp-wristed, premature, ill-informed attempt at, talentless fuckfest, recidivistic shitpeddler, pedantic, listless, savagely boring, just one repulsive laugh after another.
The one I remember most clearly was the Charlottesville riot: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unite_the_Right_rally
There was probably a rush of copycat riots around the same time?
I'm specifically talking about individual acts like mass shootings, should have been clear, my bad
My first thought when you said that was "That reminds me of the Batman movie shooting but it turns out that was not politically motivated at all, and also in 2012: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Aurora_theater_shooting
I did think you were right though, because I remembered a similar uptick, so I kept going, discovered there's an entire article just for 2018 shootings in the United States, alone (christ almighty), and reading through it, yeah, a decent number of them were politically motivated in some way. And of course, not all incidents like that involved shootings. I am unsure if it just seemed like a lot because of the raw quantity of shootings, or if it is actually a notably higher amount. But yeah, I remember feeling the same way back then.
