(DISCLAIMER: I HAVE BASICALLY NOT PLAYED ANY MODERN COUNTERSTRIKE SINCE LIKE 2019)
oh man this needs to go back into the oven for a month or two
• game runs like seniors fuck; weirdly low framerates, headache/rage-inducing stuttering
• wow i have completely forgotten how to play modern counterstrike
• volumetric smokes: Cool As Fuck, As Promised
• i like the new buy system but also why did they feel the need to change it? ok
• really liking the visual revamp tbh
• oh my god they somehow made the tutorial WORSE. what is with multiplayer shooters being so reluctant to actually teach people how to play them.
• new HUD is great, no notes
idk. good stuff is quite good and bad stuff will probably be fixed. it's still counterstrike and counterstrike is still fun.
• why is casual still 10v10. whyyyy. 20-player CS sucks so badddddd.
• hey uh. what happens to all those workshop maps for CSGO.
• love the recoil-tracking crosshair
• dude, where's my achievements?
• gamemodes??? retakes, arms race, danger zone???
sadly, the game STILL runs really badly after a few patches, even on low settings... why??? the graphics look nice but they aren't particularly high-fidelity, and the game only hovers around like, 30-50% GPU/CPU utilization. what gives??? my working theory is that Source 2 just doesn't play nice with AMD/Linux but... I'd think that that particular combination would be kinda high priority? it's a pretty bad look when your own games are barely playable on your own hardware.
in my imo this launch really needed another month or three in the oven. there's still a ton of references to a now non-existent game (CS:GO), the game's blog still uses the CS:GO branding everywhere, optimization is, as mentioned, sorely needed, the workshop is a mess, the tutorial is just gone1... what was the rush? valve is notorious for delaying launches, this is very out-of-character for them. huh whuh.

in a game that, to be frank, really needs one! CS is fun but if we're being honest with ourselves it's really unintuitive in a lot of ways. the old tutorial was pretty bad but it was, quite literally, better than Nothing. a bot match doesn't count as a tutorial.
