First shot of animation: Gentle push into the arcade.
There’s a multi-part documentary on the making of Frozen II that’s really interesting. You see the process of reviews with the Story Trust, and the test screening feedback, and you understand why that machine produces such consistent and likable product. But how does a movie as shapeless and meandering as this come from that?
There’s a shameful amount of product placement. Two hours of paying to be advertised to. And the movie, which is so glib about the films referenced, is reverent to the idea of the internet, as defined by those sponsors. Sonic describes the internet as “a community where people go to shop”. They go there to buy something, and earn the money to pay it off. They only interact with brands and ads, never users. The people are too busy being advertised to to talk anyway.
Hey! It’s the thing! I saw that thing before and now I’m seeing it again! But it’s with that other thing! There’s a mid-credit scene about the trailer for the movie I just watched!
