The last film released at the time I started this project, Encanto is unique in its era for lacking adventure elements. Mirabel just tracks down her family one by one to have feelings at each other. She’s fun to watch; a confident goof that barges ahead wherever her trail points.

The musical sequences get a vibrancy from going fully into fantasy. The songs themselves are clearly by Miranda after being anointed the golden boy of American media. Most of them sound like Hamilton outtakes.

Not to be too cute, but the film is like their house. It’s full of color and life, in a relatively small space.
