The new season of Doctor Who follows the last two specials in being fun above all else. It’s more a toy to be played with than a television show, narratives that clearly have their roots in people throwing out “wouldn’t it be funny if”s. But also, there’s an undercurrent that’s very in line with the Virgin New Adventures era. Which is only proper since so much of the previous seasons reminded me of the Andrew Cartmel years. I’m excited to see how that continues as the big, brassy overture gives way to the next movements.
