Who are we?
The Industrial Workers of the World, or the IWW for short, is a solidarity labor union. Because the IWW is a solidarity union and not a trade union, members come from all walks of life and myriad areas of expertise. The IWW regularly engages in direct action to improve the material conditions of its members and members of the working class at large. If you're a worker and not a boss, as a rule the IWW has your back.
But I'm already in another union, I can't join!
Not necessarily true! Double check with your union contract and your collective bargaining agreement first, of course, but being a member of another union doesn't automatically preclude you from joining the IWW!
But dues are certainly going to be exorbitantly expensive, no?
The IWW's dues are lower than just about any other union in the country, with minimum dues being $11 a month. Chicago IWW in particular even has sub-minimum dues for $6 a month for members who are undergoing economic hardship. Check with your local branch!
Sounds great, how do I join?
You can join here! The incredible folks at IWW General Headquarters will help you get in touch with your local branch, and they can help you out with next steps about getting organized. A good rule of thumb is to try to get in touch with your branch's Education and Outreach committee or the Organizing committee!
