The book starts with a list of hobbies he’s bad at and failed to make into careers. He bought a boat and immediately set it on a doomed course because being a sea captain sounded fun. Falls in love with Victor Frankenstein, of all people, overnight.

In my movie he’s played by a Jake Gyllenhaal, or the TV show’s Lestat; someone with the unnerving sense they shouldn’t be part of human society.
