First shot of animation: a man opens a pet rescue storefront
This is a real Leo forward in WDAS making computer animation look good. They’re showing off reflective surfaces, the subject makes them get a lot of mileage from low angles, and the pigeons are their first CGI characters that are fun to just look at.
In the 60s and 70s the live-action side of the company loved doing “a boy and his dog” movies; if you want to be bored to tears go watch The Biscuit Eater. And for all its goofy action excess and road trip structure, this is essentially in that legacy. Everything is held together by the mutual love of a child and a dog.
