I saw this circulating here and there in the gaming tags but really felt it should be getting some broader attention on here
The folks at Noclip, video game documentarians and noted cool people, just came into possession of a massive archive of high-quality gaming press material, most of it in the form of analog video tapes that have either never been digitized, have been wiped from the internet, or were only uploaded 20 years ago with terrible video quality.
All of this was supposedly headed for a landfill before they stepped in because I guess we didn't learn our lesson the first million times that important historical or cultural archives were just thrown away on a whim
They have the equipment to digitize and archive all of it (and have begun to do so) but the sheer volume of this archive makes it a massive undertaking. It's also worth noting that a lot of what they have is in formats that are prone to degrade over time so there isn't an infinite timeline on this (In the video, Danny made mention of a tape labeled as Nintendo Assets from E3 1999 that was tragically unsalvagable). They're making a funding push on their patreon right now so if you've got a couple of bucks to spare I highly recommend supporting this effort (and just all their stuff in general tbh)
They're putting it all up on YouTube but they're also submitting it to archive.org

It's cool, check it out!!!
