it makes me very happy that woodpeckers are called "carpinteros" in the spanish speaking world. they carve wood! they're carpenters!

The Finnish name for woodpeckers is "tikka", which as far as I can tell just stems onomatopoeically from the sound of them hitting the tree with their beaks.

But I've lived in the UK for over a decade and I still chuckle at one of the most common takeaway foods here effectively being called a "chicken woodpecker" in my brain.
