watership down really did shape my idea of what rabbit could be. beyond "sex symbol", beyond "fluffy and cute", beyond "easter chocolate" - beyond "prey", even, though rabbit is prey and watership down makes no bones about that. i find the story enrapturing and in a strange way comforting. oh, fearful one, you are capable of great feats of courage. oh, small one, death waits for you, but so do your friends, and soft grass, and open skies. oh, clever one, be resourceful and determined, and you may just get out of this.
