real talk, whenever people on twitter or tumblr complain about "Ugh :/ I'll never be successful (big numbers) unless i do NSFW :/" or "All anyone cares about in art is NSFW :/"

  1. [looking at pushed censorship by cc companies, sweating] haha. yeah. lol.
  2. Complaining that you won't be successful unless you give people Things They Want is kind of silly, don't you think.
  3. Looking down on and insulting everyone involved in adult entertainment isn't a great way to make friends in art. Like idk man, but there's absolutely artists you "respect" that do nsfw in some capacity.

Also the tone they use always make them sound like a kid doing something bad and not an artist in their fucking 20s that needs rent money, like dog it's Fine, those hang ups are your own problem!

But honestly, the thing that bugs me the most is the second point...like dude people would pay money? to you? to see your horny art? isn't that good? People are literally in love with your OCs?

dog i CRAWL out of my skin every time lmao. also is it just me or is it always dudes who are drawing cheesecake that would be considered nsfw in literally any setting other than "horny twitter"

The older I get and the more I do art the more I see that really it's not about nsfw or sfw it's about hitting a niche or an audience, its about having a thing or group of things and pushing yourself into that space to show people the work until they become the people who promote you because you do things they like.

Also, like, most of these people complaining are usually ones who have high enough follower counts that they can have people go on tirades for them (see many of the young sfw artists that cause drama by poking at nsfw artists). And for what? They're not making money off of it, they're not making a job out of it, they're just doing this in their spare time to watch number go up, and in the process also try to take down other people??? It feels like nonsense to me. Maybe a percentage of those people make it about commissions or artwork and actually go on to make more of it if they dont end up just taking a million comms and scamming people.

I just... I think its so weird that people don't try to look into what other artists are doing or how they're posting or just take some time to research and figure out what they're doing to get gains.

Like yeah it takes time, you won't be able to figure out an optimum solution overnight, and it will take effort, but these goalposts of follower numbers or just basic commissions from people take time and legwork.
