One of the most glaring bits of weirdness in Fallout's worldbuilding is how, despite all this useful material, preserved knowledge, and ridiculous technology still around, why hasn't anyone managed to get past the "hammering shitty boards together" level of construction. Everything's dirty, broken, rusty, etc.

Fallout 76 takes place a mere quarter-century after the bombs fell on October 23rd, 2077. Unlike every other game in the series so far, it's about people who are still coming to grips with the fact that the world ended. The game more or less follows the player characters, the residents of Vault 76, which was set to simply keep everyone safe for 25 years, then equip them for life in the post-apocalypse, send them all out into the world, then close its doors.

Anyways, I just saw a player named SkoomaGuy76 launch three honest to god nuclear warheads in a ten minute period for a few chances at a new weapon or whatever.

I think I understand how things are still so fucked up two hundred years later.
