I was about to say "cafeterias in communist Russia and China, but, like, make them work."

Fresh, hot meals are ethically sourced from the wilds of Doordashia.
Thank you! I think maybe there's still something to be said for communal spaces for making the food (similar to shared makerspaces vs personal sheds) but it's a step
yeah my first thought was getting a bunch of people together to cook one meal for everybody, but that requires someone with a decently big kitchen. i think your idea addresses that
except we can't eat together communally anymore because covid so it doesn't work anymore unless i guess it's a weird subverted potluck where everyone enters the potluck zone to grab their food and then, idk, walk home with it? or eat outside if the weather is good
that only works when it's not bitterly cold or pouring rain (in the case of no overhead structure) outside
Since this is all a hypothetical anyway, I'm imagining a public space with good ventilation. That could be somewhere outdoors when not in the bitter cold, or it could be somewhere with a very good hvac system. Either way, I don't think it's worth getting caught up on edge cases that can be worked around
Soup kitchen. We cook like two things every day, no menu, come get a bowl. Keep you strong and healthy, comrade.
These two things are not in contradiction with one another nor are they in a dialectic with one another. They are both just symptoms of the commodification of another part of humanity: enjoying a communal meal.
the synthesis is usually pointing at cafeterias in the soviet union which feels like a different kind of depressing
Community kitchen that provides a few different healthy options for differing dietary restrictions.
historically people in cities used to eat at the equivalent of food trucks and diners a lot (like in Rome)
metathesis: ordering takeout at a fancy restaurant in order to incorporate it into your wagyu wellington udon
syncretism: doing the above with the cheap corner deli to make packet ramen sustainable
home cooking but I'm not that good at it
I promise the thought "this is luxury consumption" will not cross your mind as you enjoy Frozen Peas à la Ketchup
Synthesis is complaining that DoorDash is now more expensive because venture capital firms are no longer shoveling massive amounts of money to subsidize poorly-paid food delivery workers
