scarlet & violet gym leader: sends out anchor pokemon

Me: one-shots it because pokemon has no sense of push or pull in gameplay
music: immediately ends
is this supposed to have a satisfying effect. am i supposed to be like "whew i beat that gym leader and it was so hard"?
I want gym leaders to kick my ass and they haven't since gold and silver
like there has to be a way to make it satisfying to everyone, right? Maybe a different lineup of pokemon for different level ranges? Make the anchor pokemon like, 5-10 levels higher? Start the hype music BEFORE the last pokemon? Have more than fuckin 3-4 pokemon??
it just seems so odd since even if you go in AT level, you can easily have a pokemon which will sweep with 1 super effective move for each pokemon, and it doesn't change for the anchor either
