Fight Homework, Entry 2
I felt pretty down on my journey with Vaseraga this week. My recent win rate likely hovers around 10-15%, and the fun thing about Granblue's ranked matchmaking is that as soon as you hit A rank you can no longer sink below that rank, and the game is just as happy to feed you A1s on the verge of hitting S rank as it is to give you someone equivalent to your own skill. So when I hit A rank this game turned into an endless carousel of UFC fighters kicking me in the stomach until I learn individual matchups and system mechanics.
Vaseraga can barely catch a breath in Rising once he's pressured unless you're willing to burn resources, either 50% of meter for his reversal grab or a bravery point to take your turn back. Once someone's in your face your options aren't great when your fastest button comes out at 6 frames.
I thought about giving the big man a rest, and then I saw Fuselit's run with Vaseraga in TNS last night (4/6). Fuselit is woke. Burned every cooldown, used every resource, like 5-6 command grabs every match, white-knuckling their way to a win when nearly every opponent can twerk on you with lightning fast 66L pressure.
The split-second decision making on display was incredible and hilarious. See below:
It will take me a long time to condense my mental stack and understand my options without conscious thought to fight on the level that I saw this weekend. But it's inspiring stuff to see! I booted up this morning and actually won a few sets just trying to make my opponent guess.
