A commuter train in Chicago crashed into snow-removal equipment, injuring nearly 40 people. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating a possible "design problem" with the train's braking system. NTSB Chairperson Jennifer Homendy stated that the equipment was likely stopped when the collision occurred. The NTSB is focusing on the braking system and reviewing the Chicago Transit Authority's braking algorithm. It is unclear if other trains have similar issues, but Homendy assured the public that the CTA system is safe. The NTSB expects to produce a final report with analysis and recommendations within a year to 18 months.
