Federal officials have released new details about a large fentanyl ring investigation, announcing the arrest of 11 additional suspects out of a total of 23 in custody. The investigation began after the overdose death of a young mother who had taken a fake pill made to resemble Oxycodone. The investigation led to the discovery of a massive fentanyl distribution network operating in Washington, D.C. and other parts of the country. So far, authorities have seized large quantities of fentanyl powder, pills, and firearms, and have charged 26 individuals. The defendants are accused of pushing over a million fentanyl pills into the district. The investigation also revealed that criminals are using social media platforms to market fentanyl and connect buyers with suppliers.
