Two Nevada state troopers died after being hit by a vehicle while assisting another driver on the I-15 freeway. The incident is being investigated by Las Vegas police. The names of the troopers have not been released, and it is unclear if the driver responsible has been arrested. Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo expressed his sadness and called it a devastating loss for law enforcement. The I-15 was temporarily closed following the incident. This is not the first time a trooper has been killed on this highway, as a trooper was also struck and killed in 2021 during a pursuit.

First Lady Jill Biden has brought a holiday ice rink to the White House for children to skate and play hockey during December. The 50-by-70-foot rink will be open to Washington, D.C.-area schoolchildren and children from families with service members, frontline workers, first responders, and teachers. The rink was unveiled with performances by Olympic figure skater Brian Boitano and the Snoopy character. The National Hockey League and the NHL Players Association will provide lessons through their "Learn to Play/Learn to Skate" program. This is not the first time an ice rink has been built on the White House grounds, as President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter had one built in 1980.

Nominations for the Oscars will be announced on January 23.
