I played through the first Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon today and it's actually really fun. I'm not super familiar with Castlevania III yet but the character-switching is really cool, a lot like the NES TMNT game. And there's a vampire character that's basically Alucard, and the main character, Zangetsu, is basically Guts from Berserk as a samurai. There's a lot of optional routes and optimal strategies that rely on using the right characters with the right sub-weapons. I died a good amount but never enough to lose all my lives, so it felt like a pretty fair challenge overall. There is some annoying platforming and enemy placement towards the end, and a flying portrait that kills a character in one hit, but I guess it wouldn't be Castlevania without the rage-inducing bits too.
