ooh neat. my first thought on seeing the title was "idk, they seem to be doing OK with it around here", but i guess the underground 150kV lines around here are only rated for like 200MVA tops. idk what the original Scattergood โ Olympic line did; it's kinda hard to find, but the new line replacing it is 656 MVA apparently. i imagine that's a bit trickier, especially in 1974
US infrastructure nerds need to get on the level of the Netherlands. we have electricity pylon geeks that have built (and maintain) an absurdly detailed online map of every single high voltage line โ underground and aboveground, complete with specs, sources, and pictures of nearly every individual pylon
robust social programs means people can have more hobbies instead of having it all taken up by health insurance, doctors, bills, mortgages, arcane taxes, and political randomness, imo
