I feel like docker was originally pitched to me as like... java applets, where you bundle all the dependencies and then add a tiny linux instead of the JVM and boom, stand-alone cross-platform application that you can just Run

but I can't say I've ever actually seen it used for that anywhere in it's history, and that's both funny and kinda sad. and managing containers still requires an afternoon of reading things
