Someone was complaining that people were calling themselves engineers when they don't have the certification risk, so I linked them https://www.hillelwayne.com/post/are-we-really-engineers/ where engineers mostly said 'yeah actually', even though I disagree with the point that we're engineers -- we aren't, because engineering is the application of tools and research is the pursuit of methods and machining is the manufacture of tools based on what the other professions need

and instead, most of what programmers, hobbiest and production, do is much closer to like, critical care teams that follow a patient, or dedicated veterinary teams for single endangered animals
