sure, some people will, but often it just means that way more efforts go into the free kind, even if it means a drop in quality and sales (and livelihoods)

bc people will be horny, and being able to be paid for it is what keeps some people from just puttin' it up there.

and like, idk, I know it's bad but it's completely the wrong lever of control

if you want something to go away, the best way to do it to pay enough that everyone with influence sells out

the anti-piracy people eventually figured this out. specifically with denuvo - hard enough to crack that not just any random script kiddy can do it day one, but not, like, THAT hard. but then the industry starts hiring everyone good enough to crack it, and now there's exactly one person still active in the scene who knows how and way too many games for her to crack them all
